| Our
school is a teacher-managed not-for-profit incorporated
association, which is independent and has no religious
affiliation. Families who join the school are able to
enjoy their involvement in the educational process and
the school community, without the burden of heavy responsibility.
The school values its membership of the Montessori Association
of Victoria.
While
some government funding is available for our primary
aged children, we rely heavily on levied fees to meet
our modest budget. Small scale fundraising may be undertaken
where the school community is willing.
Our
school has no uniform. Children are asked to wear comfortable
clothing, without aggressive images or expensive fashionable
labels. Natural fibres are encouraged. Slippers are
required for inside work and sturdy shoes or boots for
outside activity.
Children
at Cockatoo Montessori School will achieve the best
possible education where the school philosophy is closely
aligned to life at home. A closer understanding of Montessori
principles can be gained through our parent-teacher
evenings.
Our
principal, Karen Bennetts is a mature-age teacher with
three children of her own. She has state education qualifications
as well as Montessori Diplomas covering both pre-school
and primary years. She endeavours to cultivate a happy,
close-knit school community committed to the careful
application of the Montessori philosophy. |
